Born in Keijyo (now Seoul), Korea in 1902. Learnt plaster figure drawing from Nagahara Kotaro and learnt figure drawing from Kobayashi Mango who is the professor from Tokyo Bijyutsu Gakko. In 1927 went to France with Saeki Yuzo and Yokote Sadami, inspired by the sculpture by Zadkine. He established his massive painting style which constructing ochre or chestnut on black colored abstract forms of geometric and organic characters on the surface of the paintings in 1950s. In 1960s the colors on black gradually spread all over the image, and creates endless space beyond frame. Died in Tokyo in 1983.
