Auction Result
BI
In the 1980s, when the exhibition aimed at re-examination of postwar art was actively held in Japan, and interest in Japanese avant-garde art increased overseas, Tanaka’s early concrete activities were spotlighted. Her representative work “Electric Clothing” (1956/1986), which was requested to be recreated at the “Japan Avant-garde Art 1910-1970” exhibition held at the Pompidou Center in Paris in 1986, was subsequently exhibited in many large-scale domestic and international exhibitions. While her past activities were taken up, Tanaka released her new works at a solo exhibition almost every year without resting. Apart from the framework of concreteness, Tanaka’s uniqueness was evaluated internationally, and she had a solo exhibition in 1987 in the Galerie Stadler in Paris. This work “’ 86a ” was executed in 1986, when Tanaka was evaluated in both Japan and overseas, she proceeded and continued to work energetically. Circles and lines drawn with enamel paint from electric clothes whereas the line itself has a strength as a surface. Lines connected as if to support it rather than being entangled in a circle, and it seems that the antagonizing relationship makes the screen full of fluid energy.
