Born on 26th February 1911 in Kanagawa prefecture in Japan. He is the eldest son of Okamoto Kanoko who is a poet and novelist. He lived in France from 1930 to 1940, and participated in Abstract art movement and Surrealism movement. He digested the art at that time while he were studying at University of Paris. After the Second World War, he appeared as a painter, and his avant-garde works predominate over the world. “Today’s Art” best seller in 1954. Although his works such as “Forgotten Japan (Okinawa Culture argument)” was awarded “The Mainichi Daily News’s culture prize”, he did not only confine to art, he also carried out writing activities energetically. “Art is explosion” became the vogue word, and he actively performed and appeared in media, which often made him draw the attention from the public. Also, his representative work “Tower of the Sun”, which received much resonance, still being loved by many people even until now.
