Born in Ohio, USA in 1956, Ann Hamilton studied textile design at the University of Kansas and sculpture at Yale University. He is a visual artist who creates unique installations using various media such as video, sculpture, photography, music and text. In 1999, he was selected as a representative of the United States at the Venice Biennale, an international exhibition of contemporary art. He presented his work, Myein, which evoked material and racial inequality in American culture, and received high acclaim. He worked at Ohio State University since 2001, and is also a prominent university professor at the Faculty of Arts.
Hamilton's creations were inspired by human finger gestures and the sounds made by the mouth. In the same way as expressing abilities such as memory, reason, and imagination in language, he builds them as sensations in the installation. It focuses on the immaterial acts of reading, speaking, and listening. Its originality gives the viewer a strange feeling.
