Estes RICHARD who was an authority on Photorealism created this silkscreen work “SALZBURG CATHEDRAL”.
Estes was born in U.S.A, 1932. He was famous for painted the motif of the streets in New York with his realistic style combined with arrangement from 1960s. He started painting the architectures reflected by window and door in later 1960s, which can be seen in this work. Instead of painting the Salzburg Cathedral directly forward, he painted its reflection through the building’s door nearby which was only one part of whole architecture. It was strange that the number “1628” was not reversed, which was the year that the reconstruction of the Salzburg Cathedral was done. Seems to be different with the title, this strangeness with Estes’s style in the work can also be felt. He devoted himself into creating the silkscreen in the early 1970s. What he wanted to express can also be expressed by silkscreen, because his original silkscreen works were filled with elaboration and details.
