This work was created with the motif of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice's Adventures in Wonderland”. Using part of the book as background, Alice was locked in the quadrangle of white and black with a dissatisfied look. Alice was slightly painted as the metaphor of personal growth and social inequality.
Tim Rollins was not generally known in Japan but well-known in U.S.A. He was born in 1955. After graduate studies in art education at New York University, Rollins became a teacher of Art. Then, he formed K.O.S (Kids of Survival) with children having different problems who lived in South Bronx, New York, as an artist group to publish works. He let children to read Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night's Dream” and Kafka’s “Amerika” then draw the image of them, finished those drawings as art work himself. It was been taught from Carroll’s activities that everyone is an artist who has his or her own opinion and experience, and they can create works as long as the education and time are spent on them. He was highly appreciated for the touching development of creation and work’s wonderfulness. His works are owned by many famous museums such as MoMA, The Hirshhorn Museum and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
